Rendered in an expressionistic style, distorted but always recognizable, it sometimes makes references to tragic situations or experiences.<\/p>\n
The ovoid shape, the egg, a customary shape of human heads, has been repeatedly used, and he has approached it from one side or explored it in a dimorphic form. In the work belonging to the collection of the National Gallery, the oval shape is used for the rendering of two faces which project from its volume antithetically, while at the same time the egg becomes the title of the composition. With the surface sometimes elaborately polished and sometimes carved, the faces are depicted with large, expressive eyes and strong features, combining the strong expressionist rendering with a surrealistic tone, which derives from their contrasting projection through the shape of the egg.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
