CAVAFY<br \/>\nArtificial Bloom<\/p>\n<p>I do not want real narcissi \u2013 neither lilies<br \/>\nNor real roses appeal to me<br \/>\nThey only adorn platitudinous and common gardens<br \/>\nTheir flesh inculcates bitterness, weariness and grief to me<br \/>\nTheir perishable beauty bores me<\/p>\n<p>Give me artificial blooms \u2013 glories of porcelain and metal \u2013<br \/>\nThat do not wither and rot, with images that do not age<br \/>\nBlooms of the marvelous gardens of another land,<br \/>\nWhere Theories, Rhythms and Knowledge reside<\/p>\n<p>I love blooms made of glass or gold,<br \/>\nTrue gifts of faithful Art<br \/>\nPainted with colours more lovely than the natural,<br \/>\nElaborate with nacre and enamel,<br \/>\nWith ideal leaves and branches <\/p>\n<p>Their grace taken from wise and purest Elegance<br \/>\nThey did not grow dirty in dust and mud<br \/>\nIf they have no scent, we shall pour fragrance<br \/>\n(And) We shall burn sentimental scents before them<\/p>\n<p>Translated by Yannis Kaloudis<br \/>\nfrom the exhibition catalogue<br \/>\nC.P.Cavafy \u201cPictured\u201d. 40 Contemporary Greek Creators<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The work is inspired by C.P.
