Euripides \u201cconverses\u201d with Yannoulis Chalepas at the National Glyptotheque.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following Medea through a verbatim reading of Euripides\u2019 play, the theatrical performance focuses on her journey as a symbol of \u201cuprooting.\u201d A refugee, torn from her homeland, Colchis, she arrives in a second home \u2014 the city of Corinth \u2014 without any political rights. She is doubly exiled: from her homeland and her kin, experiencing social exclusion as a “foreigner” as well as the exile of the soul, betrayed by the god eros\/demon in the person of Jason. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three performers narrate the story of Medea, incorporating fragments of words from Medea and Jocasta by Giannis Kontrafouris into the text. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The performance unfolds at the National Glyptotheque and \u201cconverses\u201d with the eponymous work by one of the greatest Greek sculptors, Yannoulis Chalepas, Medea III<\/em> (Plaster, 72 \u00d7 44 \u00d7 26 cm), through the lighting \u201cpresences\u201d and the particular reflections of the glass case, offering impressive, different visual perspectives to every viewer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The performance\u00a0Medea Exodus III<\/em>\u00a0highlights the philosophical dimension of uprooting, the eternal displacement of female populations, the female entity, the conflict with the identity of the \u201cforeigner,\u201d the harsh integration into \u201cnew homelands,\u201d and social exclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
