Lending

The library lends material to all staff members of the National Museum and its anexxes.

The library does not lend reference material and periodicals, as well as material from its archival collections.

Interlibrary Loans

The library is a subscriber to the British Library for interlibrary loans and acquiring items that are not found in the country and also cooperates with the libraries of the School of Fine Arts, University of Crete and the Benaki Museum for interlibrary loans.

The library is also a member of the National Union Catalogue of Scientific Journals, the National Documentation Center and participates in the National Network of Science & Technology Libraries. (NNSTL) This is a core network of libraries that cooperate online ordering copies of articles from their periodicals collections.

External users can only use material in the reading room. There is open access to the major part of the books collection and current periodicals.

The older editions of journals, valuable publications and archival material must be requested from the librarians. Specifically, for use of archival material, a preliminary telephone appointment as well as a submission of an  application  stating the purpose of the research are required.
 

Photocopies - Printing

The library has a black and white photocopier, as well as computer s with internet connection and colour printing capability, which are available to the readers.

The public has the right to reproduce material, while keeping in mind the relevant provisions of Intellectual Property Law and Copyright Protection.

The fee is 6 cents per page for black and white photocopy and 30 cents per page for colour print.

In order to protect the collections, photocopies are not permitted for publications before 1920, the archival collections and material in poor physical condition.

Photography

Readers may obtain digital copies of material belonging to the archival collections. Publication is permitted following application to the National Gallery for settlement payment of intellectual property rights depending on each case, the material and use. Reproduction is undertaken by the Reproduction of Materials Department of the National Gallery. After the procedure, the material is delivered to the user in digital format. The applicant signs a contractual agreement with the Museum detailing the preparation process and delivery of material.

Innews.Database indexing Print Media nationwide. The library is a subscriber to cultural and art publications. This provides the possibility to search the full text of publications from 01-11-2003 to the present. 

Newsletter

All users of the library can subscribe to the library's newsletter and keep current of its new acquisitions.
