He was born in Livadeia in 1948. A self-taught painter and engraver, he has also been involved in photography, theatrical set design, sculpture, object-making, performances, and video art.
He has held more than 60 solo exhibitions, including at Museum Bochum (Germany), the David Owsley Museum (Indiana, USA), the Kelsey Museum (Michigan, USA), the Museum of Modern Art of Barranquilla (Colombia), the National Museum of Anthropology of Mexico, the University of Oxford, as well as galleries in Cologne, Dusseldorf, Kassel, Athens, London, Paris, Zurich, Strasbourg, New York, Palm Beach, Darmstadt, Heidelberg, Berlin, Milan, Mexico City, Wuppertal, Mannheim, Taipei, among others.
His works are held in numerous museums and collections, including Tate Britain, the National Portrait Gallery (London), the British Museum, the Fondazione Benetton, the International Center of Photography (New York), the Maison Europeenne de la Photographie (Paris), the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (Canada), and elsewhere.
His work is situated within the realm of Surrealism, while in his constructions he uses constructivist and abstract elements.
